TP Vision has announced that the new Philips 65OLED+959 will be available from mid-October to become the flagship of the Philips TV 2024 range, thanks to its unique combination of outstanding image quality, superb market-leading TV sound and the totally immersive viewing experience of the new Ambilight plus system.
The OLED+959 sets a new standard for reference quality TV images by combining a new 8th Gen version of the P5 AI Dual Engine processor with the latest META 2.0 OLED panel and META Multi Booster Algorithm.
Improvements to the powerful 8th Gen P5 AI Dual Engine processor include Ambient Intelligence V3, a new AI Machine Learn Sharpness V2 system and a new Smart Bit Enhancement algorithm (V3).
Ambient Intelligence V3 now includes optimisation of HDR to the ambient light level – working in harmony with the HDR Advanced feature to monitor and adjust HDR performance, to ensure the exceptional HDR performance can be maintained in bright viewing conditions while maintaining the director’s creative intent in darker rooms.
Ambient Intelligence V3 increases contrast, in real time, to better match with the light output of the display for low light scenes or to reduce clipping in very bright scenes.
AI Machine Sharpness V2 uses new algorithms and the additional power of the new twin chip P5 AI to create more detailed and super realistic pictures while the new Smart Bit Enhancement V3 algorithm extends 8-bit video to near 14-bits precision – to solve any banding in low-quality, greyed zones, without detail loss in other parts of the picture.
A new AI Sports Optimization feature also automatically detects football content and offers a dedicated motion setting guaranteed to offer both exceptional sharpness and smooth motion specifically optimized for the sport.
The META 2.0 panel features Micro Lens Array Plus technology with an improved light efficiency increasing output thanks to optimised angles and curvature of the MLA Lenses. The inclusion of the new META Multi Booster algorithm allows peak brightness to reach 3000 Nits – a new high for OLED technology.
The META 2.0 Multi Booster algorithm also includes a Detail Enhancer to optimise picture quality in extremely low grayscale areas, optimising HDR performance for both bright and dark content.
Picture quality is further enhanced by the Ambilight plus system taking immersive viewing to new heights by adding multiple dome-shaped lenses to the individual rear mounted colour LEDs.
Ambilight plus can more accurately track motion within the on-screen image and increases the number of zones to 192 to help create a more dynamic, higher resolution halo – Ambilight plus can also project up to four different halos at different depths to add a multi-dimensional impact to the overall immersive effect.
The OLED+959 also offers a flagship level gaming experience via an improved Game Bar.
The new Game Bar is designed to allow gamers to quickly customise, enhance and monitor their gaming experience. The number of unique picture enhancements has been increased from three to five with the OLED+959 adding a Centre Zoom and Edge Enhancer, to the Cross Hair, Shadow Enhancer and Colour Filter found on other premium Philips TVs.
Gamers can also quickly adjust picture, sound and Ambilight settings and can choose to save their overall selection in one of up to ten game profiles. HDMI audio/video status information is also monitored and offers a discrete FPS indicator to monitor the performance of the selected gaming setup.
Connected gaming devices are instantly dedicated and Game mode can be automatically activated – which includes MEMC gaming and VRR extended to 144Hz including for Dolby Vision Gaming.
The OLED+959 also offers the lowest latency of just 5ms on a 120Hz input and 13ms for a 60Hz input. MEMC allows gamers to also activate the Smooth motion option from the sets P5 AI motion processing to enjoy judder free motion but still with minimal latency- reduced from 200ms to 31ms.
Naturally, as the flagship of the range, the OLED+959 also offers market leading TV sound quality thanks to a new integrated 5.1.2 sound system. The Bowers & Wilkins audio engineering team has used its expertise for creating premium sound from compact spaces to develop new bespoke, high-performance, slimline 30 x 50mm drivers with the OLED+959 system accommodating a total of 18 drivers, while maintaining the set’s slim silhouette and without compromising on audio performance.
The system includes dedicated, front-firing, left, centre, right (LCR) speakers, with each channel including two 30 x 50mm mid-range drivers plus a 19mm titanium dome tweeter – now with a Nautilus tube. The frontal sound is extended by an additional two 30 x50mm drivers in each of the discrete left & right side-firing channels and in each of the two set-top mounted, up-firing, elevation speakers.
All of the speakers are acoustically isolated, mounted in their own rigid enclosures. At the rear of the set is a dedicated bass enclosure featuring a 75mm subwoofer supported by two pairs of balanced 45 x 65mm passive radiators.
The amplifier now features six modules to offer 12 channels of amplification for a total power rating of 102W with each channel having its own dedicated signal processing.
The overall result is an integrated TV that is capable of projecting a high-resolution, extended cinema quality sound far into the viewing room, with a spacious sound stage that has both distinct height and width, plus deep, accurate bass.
For viewers seeking even deeper bass, the OLED+959 includes the option to connect an external subwoofer.
The OLED+959 also looks exceptional thanks to the best of European design that follows design trends in removing metallic and secondary finishing. The TV’s design also responds to consumers demands that any technology is largely hidden from the front view, to create a product offering a sense of discrete power.
The slimline OLED+959 can be wall mounted or floor standing via its minimalist, mid-slate coloured aluminum and steel stand. The forward, side and up-firing speaker enclosures are also covered in a slate gray Kvadrat Audiomix fabric.
The OLED+959’s remote control has both USB-C and wireless charging, creating a slim form factor, with backlighting and a secondary layer of controls to reduce the size and simplify the user experience.
