Philips TV further extends its Smart TV proposition by adding compatibility for Amazon Alexa.

• Philips TV will release an Amazon Alexa ‘skill’ named “Philips Smart TV Voice Control”
• The new skill will allow the voice control of Philips Android TVs via Alexa-enabled devices
• All Philips Android TVs from the 2018 range and P5-equipped sets from the 2017 range will be supported
• The skill will be released by the Android O software update coming later in 2018
• Amazon Alexa compatibility will be available in English and German at launch.

Berlin, August 30, 2018 – Would you like to turn on your TV or switch to a different TV channel simply by asking? The new Philips Smart TV Voice Control skill for Amazon Alexa will make it possible to control compatible Philips TVs just by your voice.

All you need to do is ask “Alexa, turn on the TV” or “Alexa, change the channel to BBC”. You can also adjust the TV volume, switch the input source, and control multimedia playback.

To utilize the Philips Smart TV Voice Control function, consumers will need an Alexa-enabled device such as the Amazon Echo or Echo Spot. Users can then pair their device with the pre-installed Alexa app on their compatible Phillips TV.

The new skill will be released as part of the upgrade to the O version of Android TV OS. It will be available in the final quarter of this year for all Philips Android TVs from the 2018 line-up, as well as P5-equipped Android TVs from the 2017 range.

A “How to…” channel will be available in the home menu of compatible Philips Android TVs, where users will be able to find an explanatory video on how to enable the new function.
