Online talk available on June 9th
Amsterdam, June 4, 2020 – Would you like to learn more about the trade secrets of the design of Philips TV & Sound products? Now is your chance. On the 9th of June Chief Designer of Philips TV & Sound Rod White will enter the virtual stage of Dezeen’s Virtual Design Festival. Rod White will join an inspiring online talk with chief editor Marcus Fairs and discuss how design – and especially European design – plays a role in designing TV and audio products for Philips TV & Sound. The talk will be accessible on www.dezeen.com/vdf at 2PM CET. Rod White is one of the leading architects and designers worldwide who share their thoughts and insights at the world’s first-ever online design festival. The festival is initiated by Dezeen – one of the most influential architecture and design titles – to keep the conversation going in times of COVID-19.
Chief designer Rod White has an impressive background in product design. After graduating in Furniture Design from Edinburgh College of Art in 1991 he started his career in Tokyo, designing heating and cooling products for Toshiba. Thereafter he started working for Philips Design in different roles, based in Eindhoven, Vienna, Singapore. In Singapore he was also a part time lecturer for Furniture Design at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Early 2009 he was back in the Netherlands, as the Creative Director for all Philips Lifestyle Entertainment products until commencing on his current position, where he laid the foundation of the European Design Philosophy for Philips TV & Sound.
European Design
European Design is one of the basic principles of Philips TV & Sound. Over the last few years, great partnerships were set up with design and lifestyle brands that are best in their class, such as Georg Jensen, Bowers & Wilkins, Kvadrat, Muirhead and Abbey Road Studios. Together with its partners, TP Vision has manufactured a range of premium TV and sound products made from premium materials and designed to be meaningfully outstanding. As a next step, the brand will introduce ranges of co-branded products based on its European Design Philosophy. The Fidelio X3 headphone is manufactured with raw materials from Kvadrat and Muirhead and the Georg Jensen Audio Collection breathes European Design through the form and materials used.
Rod White:
“Design lies at the heart of our product development processes. Philips TV and Sound products are more than just technological, functional products. They play an important role in how people design their lives and homes but also how they express their personality, their aesthetics and how they spend time together or alone. We are very proud to be part of Dezeen’s Virtual Design Festival and to be able to contribute.”
